Comprehensive digitalization in German offices remains a pipe dream, as an analysis by the Heidelberg comparison portal Verivox shows. According to this, citizens can currently only use 101 of 579 government services via the Internet. However, according to the law to improve online access, all administrative services must be available online by the end of 2022.

German EU place 21 out of 35

143 services are partly available online and 326 services are not digitized at all. Compared to a Verivox evaluation from March of this year, only small progress has been made: At that time, 89 OZG services were fully accessible digitally.

“The important digitalization process towards a more efficient, citizen-friendly administration is making little progress,” criticizes Jens-Uwe Theumer, Vice President Telecommunications at Verivox.

The inadequate digitalization of German authorities is also confirmed in an EU comparison. According to the EU Commission, Germany ranks 21st out of 35 countries in the digitalization of authorities and is rated below average with a digitalization level of 63 percent. For comparison: the EU average is 68 percent. German authorities perform particularly poorly when it comes to the tools available to implement services.
