Be careful with emails from Disney+! Criminals are sending mass emails claiming that you need to update your payment information because your subscription has expired. Do not follow the links because you will end up on fake login pages and lose money and data to criminals, warns our cooperation partner Watchlist Internet .

Phishing attacks on streaming users

After countless phishing emails addressed to Netflix and Amazon Prime users, criminals are now trying to lure Disney+ users into the trap. To do this, you send an email in the Disney+ design, make false claims and ask you to click on a “Register” button. Instead of going to disneyplus.com, this leads to a completely wrong domain and login or credit card details entered there end up directly in the hands of criminals.

Subject: Your payment failed.

Please update your payment information

Your subscription has expired, please renew your payment information.

Your account will be canceled within 3 days and you will be charged a closure fee of €9.99.

If the problem persists, make sure your payment method supports e-commerce transactions.

Registration

If no updates have been made after receiving this email, your account will be suspended and a fee between 9.99 and 49.99 euros may be deducted from your primary payment method.

Source Watchlist Internet

The fake message claims that a payment failed and that your subscription has expired, which would require you to renew your payment information. Even though your payment information is said to have expired, you are still threatened with a debit of 9.99 euros, and later even 49.99 euros. This puts a lot of pressure on the user to follow the link and provide their payment information! Caution! The perpetrators are after this data.

How do you recognize the message?

  • The message does not come from disneyplus.com, but from etadventures.com.
  • The link in the message does not redirect you to disneyplus.com, but to buyorsellcheyenne.com.
  • The content of the message is a jumble of made-up reasons for your further action.
  • If you log into your Disney+ account the usual way, you will quickly notice that there is no problem with the payment method.
  • You will not be addressed personally in the message. This can also happen with real emails, but it is unusual.
  • If you don't have a subscription to Disney+, it's clear that it must be a phishing email.

Did you follow the link?

If you followed the link, there is no reason to worry yet. However, if you have entered data on the fake website, your action is necessary:

  • Change your Disney+ login information to prevent strangers from accessing your account.
  • Contact your bank and discuss how to proceed.
  • If debits have already occurred, please ask for the amounts to be reversed if possible.
  • It is probably necessary to block your payment method or at least renew your password so that criminals cannot initiate any (further) payment transactions.
  • You can also file a police report.
