We already reported in 2020 that a chain letter was going viral, which unfortunately did not contain entirely correct information regarding how to deal with heart attacks. The chain letter describes what you can do if you are alone and have a heart attack. It is described that a certain coughing technique can save your life.

Now a user has brought this chain letter to our attention again.

According to the German Heart Foundation, this chain letter has been distributed repeatedly on various social networks since 1999. In 2018, the Rhein-Zeitung examined this chain letter and discussed it together with experts from the Mainz University Medical Center. Here is the result:

“This coughing technique does exist, but it can only help with benign cardiac arrhythmias. It can be harmful if you have a heart attack.”

Dr. Felix Post, cardiologist and intensive care physician at the II Department of Medicine at the University Medical Center at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz

In the eyes of the doctor, the only right thing to do is to call the emergency doctor . In fact, this technology could help with cardiac arrhythmias, but in the case of a heart attack it could also be fatal!

What should you do if you suddenly feel chest pain?

Get someone to help quickly or try to call the emergency doctor yourself!

If you are alone at home, be sure to open the house or apartment door, if possible, so that the emergency personnel can get to you. If you are still able and have the opportunity, try activating Neighbors.

Always research online information!

This shows how important it is not to accept information from the Internet as absolute. Half-truths can be dangerous and, in the worst case, can end in death!

That's why it's important to always find out the sources and find out more information on the Internet or, even better, from experts. In addition, it is important that such chain letters are no longer distributed so that no damage can occur.

Conclusion

Unfortunately, the chain letter that has been spreading since 1999 contains dangerous half-truths. The coughing technique can help with cardiac arrhythmias, but in the event of a heart attack it can be extremely harmful or even fatal!

Please stop sharing this chain letter and always be careful with the contents of such letters. It's better to ask more than ask too little!
