A few days ago, a doctor in Offenburg was stabbed to death by a Somali in his practice. Do you really have to invent something about this act?

This is how BILD reported

“On Thursday morning, a man (26) stormed into a family doctor's office in Offenburg (Baden-Württemberg) and killed a doctor and his assistant with a knife. Terrible: The doctor’s daughter (10) was there when her father died in the practice.”

Many other media outlets took over the information from the BILD article without checking it, as colleagues from “BildBlog” documented in detail . It has now long been refuted that the assistant was killed and the daughter saw the crime. “baden online” reported on the press conference and states:

“Media reports and comments on social media were false, according to which the ten-year-old daughter of the family doctor was said to have observed the crime. There is no evidence that the crime took place under the eyes of a relative, emphasized Schäfer. In fact, the child appears to have been in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene.”

In the joint press release from the Offenburg public prosecutor's office and the Offenburg police headquarters, in which the events of the crime are described in detail, there is no mention of the daughter in the supplementary reports, which would be the case if she had actually been directly at the crime scene as a witness.

The case itself is bad enough. Unfortunately, that very point in the reporting that is wrong is now being used to make the mood boil up a little. This is how an image with text is currently shared:

“The perpetrator (…) without hesitation stabbed the doctor with the knife he had brought with him in front of the 10-year-old daughter's eyes.
The daughter cried desperately: “Daddy, daddy”. Her father died while still at the practice. (…)
The 10-year-old daughter also lives on – but without a father.”

The picture is distributed by a Facebook page called “The Women’s Alliance”. While this organization, which describes itself as impartial, is more or less clearly directed against violence against women, especially those committed by migrants, on Facebook, the page takes a clearer tone, especially on vk.com:

Why?

Why does a terrible murder, which is already sensational enough, have to be “seasoned” with proven lies? Do these people actually believe that there are people who think murder is okay, but only get excited when a child is involved? The murder alone is bad enough, why is the daughter now being dragged into it and dragged through the media?

We are in no way defending this act or the perpetrator! But we wonder whether it is necessary to spread untruths to create even more of a stir. Because one thing is certain: people who then create such pictures and focus on two factors, namely “Somali” and “daughter”, are not really mourning. Rather, they want to stir up the hate factor.
