A good half of Germans read online reviews of doctors and only then decide to visit the respective practice. This is the conclusion reached by a survey by the digital association BITKOM among 1,144 Internet users aged 16 and over. Nevertheless, 42 percent do not trust the patient feedback. In addition, 34 percent read reviews when selecting hospitals, 22 percent do so with regard to medical practices and 30 percent obtain information about rehabilitation clinics and care facilities.

In addition to doctors, older people primarily research nursing homes

According to BITKOM figures, people between 16 and 29 use the Internet more often for information about doctors and hospitals. Respondents aged 65 and over research significantly more about care facilities. Due to digitalization, the demand for video consultations is increasing. The main problem here is data protection, which is becoming increasingly important. This is shown by an online survey by the Federal Association of Consumer Organizations . According to this, protecting their own data is very important for three quarters of those surveyed.

Several providers have already been warned for data protection violations.

Reading online reviews is standard practice

“Online reviews are now a common criterion for bookings, purchases or services. They provide greater transparency and can help people make good choices. This has also long been true in the health sector. It is important that consumers can assess the reviews competently.”
