You know it: A look into the self-service meat counter and there are vacuum-sealed beef steaks, pork fillets and... dog heads. Dog heads?
It's a very sensitive topic: A sharepic shows parts of dogs or body parts that look as if they came from a dog. The vacuum-sealed dog heads in the center of the picture are particularly striking.
The picture is subtitled “Say no to world dog show Shanghai China 2019” and also notes “Boycott China”. The World Dog Shows Shanghai actually existed and took place from April 30th to May 3rd, 2019 ( compare ).

But we will check in the following fact check whether this picture is really related to the exhibition. Where does the following picture come from and are dogs (including heads) sold vacuum packed in China?

Dogs in the meat counter?
A quick search shows: This photo has already caught the attention of our colleagues at Snopes, more than 6 years ago. In 2013, Snopes published an article about it called “Dog Heads for Sale” ( see here ). In this respect, one can rule out a direct connection to the World Dog Show, as well as a topicality of the image itself.
What Snopes found:
This image of vacuum-sealed and packaged dog heads appearing to be in a meat department in a supermarket appeared online in May 2013. It was claimed several times at the time that the photo was taken in a store in China, South Korea, Nigeria or Vietnam.

All of these countries—be they China, South Korea, Nigeria, and Vietnam—have a reputation (to varying degrees) as places where people eat dog meat. It doesn't matter whether it is served in restaurants or sold as food in the supermarket.
There is also a corresponding source from spring 2013, in which a supermarket in Seoul (South Korea) is given as the location ( see here ).
However, Snopes was never able to determine the original source of this image nor verify its authenticity. There were no other photos of this scene. In this respect, the origin of the image remains unclear.
Nevertheless, China in particular is repeatedly criticized when it comes to dog meat; for example, we reported on the dog meat festival in Yulin, China. All posts
No!
This festival was NOT a hoax! Year after year, people who view dogs as a delicacy meet in YULIN in southern China! Although animal rights activists protest against this year after year, the dogs are caught, killed and eaten! The “festival” always takes place in June every year, when the solstice is celebrated, as in many other countries. In addition to various dishes, dogs are also offered lychees and liqueur. Eating them is said to bring them luck. That's the reasoning.
The dogs themselves mostly came from the black market. Animal rights activists repeatedly report that these dogs are kidnapped or picked up directly on the street. Afterwards they will be killed!
