Currently, users' mailboxes are filled with alleged emails from DPD stating that a package will be held in a warehouse for up to three days until the user confirms delivery. After that, a daily fee of around 4 euros will apply.

If you're expecting a package and ignore the grammar, it's tempting to follow the link and confirm your delivery. However, the package number and pressing the button labeled “Delivery Confirmation” lead to the domain of a shooting club in Australia .

The URL shows that the path leads to a country-specific subpage. In this way, cybercriminals can place their malicious code on the shooting club's website without them knowing about it. In addition, it is hardly possible to trace the criminals and it can be prevented that anti-virus programs react to the URL to the phishing website.

Typical phishing email

Anyone who can read has a clear advantage . In this case, this is not just a figure of speech, but can actually protect the recipient of the email from a phishing attack. If you read the text carefully, you will immediately see that the grammar is incorrect and the content makes little sense. The paragraph in which it is explained to the user that storage of the package will be charged from the third day is also highly unusual for a delivery company and should be viewed with sufficient skepticism. In reality, this notice is only intended to put pressure on the recipient of the email and trap them for fear of additional costs.

This letter is concluded with the words: “ With kind regards, DPD-AT ”. This could suggest that DPD Austria is not a fan of big words, or, and this is much more likely, that it is not the usual DPD formatting, which lists contact details and links to the official website

DPD warns about spam emails

DPD Austria warns its customers about the spam emails circulating on Facebook and calls on them not to comply with the requests in them under any circumstances.

DPD advises anyone who is actually expecting a parcel and wants to be on the safe side to check the authenticity of the parcel number provided directly via the website www.dpd.at or www.mydpd.at. We expressly warn against clicking on the link, as there is not only the possibility that it will lead to a phishing page, but it could also be that there is malicious code there that could cause significant damage to the end devices.
