Some topics are difficult to separate from one another.
In this case, this includes animal protection, which also affects climate protection. This must always be taken into account when a certain framing is carried out by certain parties, as is happening here: A radical animal rights organization called “Animal Rebellion” drilled tires on dairy farm trucks and partly justified this with climate protection. Does this make supposed animal rights activists “climate chaotics”? Isn't that rather counterproductive?
Here is one of the framings circulating: The actions of “Animal Rebellion” are blamed on German climate activists:

The drilled truck tires
The photos and videos were not taken in this country at the beginning of September, but in England, specifically in various Müller dairy farms and other companies. For several days , animal rights activists carried out various actions at the dairy companies, including demonstrating with signs for a “plant-based future”, sticking themselves on the streets and drilling truck tires.
The activists of the organization “Animal Rebellion” even filmed themselves:
In the video, Animal Rebellion activists can be seen drilling holes in truck tires at Müller Wiseman Dairies, Ashmore Lake Way, Willenhall, in the early hours of the morning, with a hissing sound heard as air escapes through the holes .
The video was also published on Twitter:
However, the activists are by no means applauded for this! Many comments criticize “Animal Rebellion” for the action (sarcastically):
- "Yes. Thanks to these protests, millions of people will now choose veganism.”
- "Excellent. Someone gets into the truck during their ten-hour shift. While driving on the highway, the tires burst, they lose control of the vehicle, skid on the highway, and cause a collision with several injuries/deaths thanks to your shortsightedness..."
- “I fully support the goals, but I am not in favor of damaging other people's property. It’s also possible to simply let the air out of the tires.”
- “Why choose this path that results in tires ending up in landfill, new tires being delivered and more being produced, which pollutes the climate.”
- “Criminal damages will not force meat eaters to stop eating meat, drinking milk, or eating yogurt! This will only land you in court!”
What the protests were about
The action was part of Animal Rebellion's calls for a "plant-based future", with activists demanding government support for farmers and fishing communities to transition to a plant-based food system.
Animal Rebellion activist Rowena Field, who traveled from York to attend the action, told the Droitwich Standard she hoped the protest would spark change and government action on the climate crisis.
“The crisis is so imminent - the climate and environmental crisis - that the disruption it will cause is so much more than what this action will cause. It would be nice if we didn’t feel like we had to do this, but action is not being taken quickly enough.”
Rovna Field
In a statement on Facebook, the activists also emphasize their connection between animal and climate protection:
Animal Rebellion supporters punctured the tires of approximately 50 trucks, completely stopping the delivery of dairy products from the site.
Why?
Because we are in a climate and ecological emergency and one of the root causes is the absolute moral atrocity that is our food system - with BILLIONS of animals killed for food in the UK every single year. The extent of the suffering is unimaginable - and the fact that this is pushing us further into climate chaos means it is an absolute must: we need a #PlantBasedFuture. And until the government starts to act on this, we have no choice but to continue to cause trouble. It's the only option we have left.
Animal protection or climate protection? Or both?
“Animal Rebellion” is an offshoot of the “Extinction Rebellion” movement, which uses radical methods to protect the climate. “Animal Rebellion” also does this, but mainly speaks out against the animal industry and thus combines animal protection and climate protection as its goal.
The bitter aftertaste of rebellion
One page shows the photos and videos of the actions of “Animal Rebellion” without giving any context and calls the activists “climate chaotics” in order to create a framing that is intended to defame climate protectors. And that is the big problem with both rebellion movements.
As early as 2019, we reported on the then new “Extinction Rebellion” movement, for whom “Fridays for Future” was essentially too slow and therefore wanted to draw attention to their cause through radical (and often punishable) actions. And as much as their goal of animal and climate protection may be legitimate, their actions are anything but helpful.
Because, as one Twitter user (see above) sarcastically noted: “ Thanks to these protests, millions of people will now choose veganism .” This is exactly what will not happen. Many English people will have been annoyed by the empty shelves because they could not buy milk. This creates anger at activists, but not anger at animal products or climate change.
So thank you, “Animal Rebellion” (yes, that’s being sarcastic). Breaking into other people's properties and slashing tires so that the milk arrives at the supermarket a little while later will convince absolutely no one to live vegan and protect the climate, not even a single politician. On the contrary: you are putting the entire animal and climate protection movements in a bad light.
