Drugs that are secretly thrown into your glass at a party or in a club - also known as a roofie - are unfortunately a bitter reality. A video that first appeared on Twitter coincidentally shows such an action.

User Jaeda_sky posted this video on Twitter on April 5, 2018. It has since been deleted, but has been re-uploaded here, for example:

The video shows two young women having a good time at a music festival. The girl who is filming herself with her cell phone holds her glass back a little. In those few seconds you see someone walk by, throw something into her glass and quickly disappear.

Who, when, where?

The video was recorded in Brazil in April 2018. It is also known who the young lady is: It is the Brazilian Kristal Santos , who presents her photos and videos on Instagram.

Is the video real?

This is difficult to assess. Some users point out that it could be fake, as no one would be so simple as to throw something into a glass before a cell phone recording is in progress. Nonetheless, the so-called “roofie,” which is slang for Rohypnol, the “rape drug” thrown in your glass, is a very real problem.

How is Kristal?

Luckily good. On her Instagram account she says that she is happy about the reactions to her video, but that no one has anything to worry about. The glass was almost empty; she didn't drink any of it because the party had just ended.

I'm trying to get my hands on something and export it, so I'm sure I'll have it in my book but I can't keep it in front of me. You can only explain that you continue to preocupados…You don't have to wait until the end of the party, but you don't have to worry about it. Aqui o boa noite Cinderela pra vocês!!??? #aloiradocopo

A real problem

Whether the video is real or not: the method of throwing knockout drops or other drugs into unattended glasses is unfortunately not fake. The state and federal police crime prevention agencies advise:

  • Order drinks from the waitress and only accept them yourself.
  • Do not accept open drinks from strangers.
  • Do not leave open drinks unattended.
  • If you feel sick, seek help from staff.
  • Friends pay attention to each other and don't let their drinks out of their sight.
  • In an emergency, friends will immediately get medical help for the victim and notify the staff.
