As our cooperation partner Watchlist-Internet reports, Internet users from Austria are currently coming across an offer from “Autoworld DasWeltAuto” from Romania via various job advertisement portals.

Autoworld DasWeltAuto: In the first contact, you will be referred to WhatsApp, where the job description will be sent. The task: Open an N26 bank account and process payments for the company for a commission. In short, money laundering should be carried out.

When looking for a job, there is hardly any way around the internet these days. However, caution is advised, because in addition to the numerous legitimate job offers, you will also find some fraudulent advertisements here. In the case of the job offer from the alleged Autoworld DasWeltAuto from Romania, the task is to transfer money in your own name and to retain an agreed amount for this.

The advertisements on various job portals are rather cryptic and do not describe the tasks very precisely:

If you are interested in the offer, you will receive the following letter via WhatsApp, in which you will be fully informed about the job offer for the first time:

The company says that it recently had problems with Hungarian customs while conducting business and as a result 43,000 euros were confiscated. The money has now been paid back, but in order to avoid such problems in the future, they are now looking for you. Your task is described as follows: You should open a German account with the N26 bank. This is only possible for people from the USA, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain and Great Britain. The account would be required in order to be able to trade cars with German companies.

You should receive 300 euros per transaction. The example given is that 12,500 euros are transferred to your N26 account and you then transfer 12,200 euros on your behalf.

Warning: you are money laundering

Of course, this isn't clearly communicated in the job offer, but your job is to launder money. All transfers are made in your name and you are used as a “money mule”.

The Criminal Code (StGB § 165) stipulates, among other things, that persons who knowingly acquire, store, invest, manage, convert, exploit or transfer assets to third parties through unlawful acts are to be punished. If you come into contact with such offers, you should immediately refrain from them and file a police report. This also applies if you have already made transfers.
