“This message informs all users that our servers have been very busy recently”

The most important thing about this Facebook message in brief:

  • There is a message making the rounds at the moment that we reported on a year ago.
  • This is a chain letter.
  • The content is incorrect because it is technically not possible for the smartphone to be updated by sending a message to different people or even for the Facebook account to be deleted.

A message has been making the rounds on Facebook for a few days, which is usually sent from user to user as information via Messenger. This is news that we reported on a year ago. This message is likely to be triggered by a failure of Facebook or Whatsapp, which was the case again. The message looks like this in Messenger and reads:

This message informs all users that our servers have been very busy recently. We therefore ask you to help you solve this problem. We ask active users to send this message to everyone in the contact list to confirm Facebook's active users, if you do not send this message to all your Facebook contacts and your account remains inactive, which will result in the loss of your entire account . The smartphone will be updated in the next 24 hours with a new design and color for chat. Dear Facebook users, we will update Facebook from 11:00 p.m. Until 5:00 a.m. this morning. If you don't send this to all contacts, the update will be canceled and you won't be able to chat using Facebook Messages

What do we see here?

What we see here is a chain letter that is not true. The text itself originally came from English...

This message is to inform all our users that our servers have been very busy lately, so we ask you to help solve this problem. We ask active users to forward this message to everyone on their contact list to confirm active Facebook users if they do not send this message to all their Facebook contacts, and their account will remain inactive with the result of losing all their contacts Move this message. Your smartphone will be updated in the next 24 hours and will have a new design and a new color to chat. Dear Facebook users, we will update to Facebook starting at 23:00 pm. Until 5:00 am of this day. If you do not send it to all your contacts, the update will be canceled and you will not have the possibility to chat with your Facebook messages

...but is already circulating in many other languages (not just German). Such as French, Hungarian, Spanish, Arabic, Russian and Chinese.

But what is the text about? Is the content even correct?

No! Someone must have put this together and now this “information” is spreading unchecked on Facebook.

It is simply not technically possible for the smartphone to be updated by sending a message to different people or for the account to be deleted. And the fact that you should send this message to so many people at all points to a chain letter. In addition, Facebook has not officially announced anything similar…

Result:

It is a chain letter. This alleged announcement from Facebook can therefore be ignored and should not be shared under any circumstances. Why? Because only breaking the chain really counteracts the spread of senseless fake news!
