Ducklings on the water slide: sweet leisure or forced activity?
It's the simple joys in life that often put a smile on our faces. This also applies to the video of the ducklings on the water slide, which has been circulating on the Internet since 2011 . The little yellow creatures enthusiastically waddling up and down a water slide are a feast for the eyes. “They waddle up the ramp next to the slide as quickly as they can to plunge straight back into the wet fun. I could literally watch all day ,” writes one enthusiastic viewer.
But the question arises: are the ducklings really enjoying this seemingly endless series of slides or is there more than meets the eye?
reported on this video before , but it was republished on TikTok and Instagram in 2023, which again led to various user inquiries:

A fact check: The food and the heat lamp are the motivation
Behind the innocent video lies an unexpected truth.
The ducklings don't slide out of fun or joy, but out of a natural instinct: hunger. At the beginning of the slide there is a feeding trough flanked by a heat lamp.
The chicks reach out for the food and are inevitably pushed downwards by the mass movement, whereupon they have to make their way up to get back to the feeding trough. This video shows that the chicks stumble and stumble rather than slide down enthusiastically.
The online community is divided: cuteness or animal cruelty?
What was once considered sweet and cute has become a controversial debate. While many Internet users continue to like and share the video, criticism of the scene is also growing. Many argue that the ducklings' situation is more animal cruelty than harmless fun. This always leads to arguments and heated debates among users.
The invisible side of the viral: A cause for reflection
The video of the ducklings on the water slide teaches us an important lesson about the reality behind viral internet phenomena. It challenges us to dig deeper, ask questions and look for the real story behind what at first glance appears to be harmless entertainment. After all, even the smallest creatures like ducklings have a right to dignity and a life without unnecessary stress and coercion.
