E-prescription: Younger people in particular want to redeem prescriptions via the app
One in five Germans would only want to fill a doctor's prescription digitally in the future. Another 21 percent would predominantly choose the digital version. Among younger people between the ages of 16 and 29, the desire for an exclusively or predominantly digital redemption option is slightly higher at a total of 50 percent. This is shown by a survey of 1,144 people in Germany aged 16 and over commissioned by the digital association BITKOM.
Introduction comes too late
Whether digital or analogue redemption: 74 percent of German citizens believe that the introduction of e-prescriptions in Germany is coming far too late. “The withdrawal of the last test region from the rollout process was another bitter setback for the digitalization of the healthcare system in Germany,” says Malte Fritsche, BITKOM expert for digital medicine.
Although the e-prescription remains a thing of the future, many Germans are already open to it. “It is important that not only secure and low-threshold transmission channels are developed for the e-prescription, but also that lost trust is regained by both the insured persons and doctors,” Fritsche continues.
Seniors rely on paper
Currently, a third of Germans want to redeem the e-prescription exclusively as a printout in the pharmacy in the future. Another 20 percent also prefer a predominantly analogue redemption method, but would also use the app. Seniors aged 65 and over in particular are currently in favor of the completely analogue (58 percent) or predominantly analogue (ten percent) variant.
