They disguise themselves as a reminder, bill or threat. They hide a nasty surprise in the appendix. Be careful of these emails!

At first glance they look like real bills. You are addressed by your own name several times and the sender also knows your own address and telephone number.

The senders' company names sound plausible at first, but they have absolutely nothing to do with the email if they even exist.

There are already different versions of this email in circulation.

At the moment we are receiving some inquiries about this one:

Dear …,

Unfortunately, your payment to Easypay GmbH could not be recorded.

Personal details:

[Your name]
[Your address]
[Your location]

Tel. [Your phone number]

We hereby request that you pay the outstanding amount immediately by November 6th, 2018. If no transfer is recorded by the specified date, we will be forced to submit our claim to a court. You will have to bear all associated costs.

In order to avoid additional costs, we ask you to transfer the amount due to our account. Due to the existing late payment, you are instructed to pay the resulting costs of 11.83 euros.

All payments made up to October 29, 2018 were taken into account.
Your personal invoice is included in this email.

Please note that your bill will only be settled when your payment is transferred to our account.

With kind regards

Easypay GmbH

VAT ID number: DE 214852883

The fact check

We now know the following supposed senders:

  • Concardis Limited & Co. KG
  • Comondoo GmbH
  • Ogone GmbH
  • Novalnet Co. KG
  • EasyPay GmbH

The company names are misused or do not even exist. The attached invoice (reminder, etc.) turns out to be a Trojan horse - so there is no invoice either.

Except for the recipient's postal address, the content is fictitious.

In an earlier version with the sender Concardis Limited & Co. KG we tried to open the attached invoice:

The name of the invoice consists of the company name, a number and your own name and appears in the form of a .zip archive.

A closer examination of this archive shows that the contents of the archive are a Trojan. Please do not run this Trojan under any circumstances!

What is a TROJAN?

Trojans are standalone (usually executable) programs that pretend to be something other than what they really are. When you run the file, it initially appears as if nothing is happening.

But that's not true! A program is installed in the background.

The program or the internet fraudsters behind such programs now have access to your data or they can also have complete control over your computer.

The most telltale of all file attachments is the .zip attachment. Emails from trustworthy sources never come as .zip files, not even as .com /.pif / .ico / .scr/ .exe. Please do not open and execute the contents unless you consciously expect such a file.

1) Anyone who opens or has opened the file attachment and has also executed the content (this is the critical point!) should first have their PC scanned by their virus scanner .
2) Change all passwords to social networks, online shops, etc. As a precaution, please also notify your bank or credit card company.
