Who does not know it? You write a message on WhatsApp, read along as you write it, send it quickly, and just then - “Oh no!!” - you discover an error. Mistyping is not uncommon. A message is then often forwarded with a correction. The same or a different error is often present here, and again the fingers are faster than the eyes. Then the correction follows the correction.
In the end, things often don't really get better; sometimes the errors in the news even make sense, which can lead to strange and embarrassing reports. Depending on who the message is addressed to, this can lead to amusing or extremely embarrassing moments that make you want to throw your smartphone out the window and get into a leniency program. (And yes, that was a short inside story about “DamnAutocorrect.”)
This will soon be over – thank you, WhatsApp!
This short video from WhatsApp gives reason to be happy:
Messages that have already been sent can therefore be edited in the future. Whether typos, incomplete information or other inaccuracies - the planned function will make it possible to check sent messages and make corrections if necessary. According to the video, you have 15 minutes to correct a message after you send it.
"Processed"
As you can see from the screenshots, you select the corresponding message by holding your finger on it for a longer period of time. Among other things, the “Edit” option appears here. And you can make the necessary corrections.
If a message has been edited, it will be displayed below the text: “Edited” to ensure the necessary transparency. It is not clear from the previous information or screenshots whether you can also see the processing history.
Available soon
Will Cathcart, Head of WhatsApp, promises that this will be rolled out to all users in the coming weeks:
WABetaInfo writes that editing messages is “now” possible. Some replies to this tweet show that some users can already use this new feature.
A feature that has been a long time coming is now about to be rolled out. It definitely makes sense to be able to edit “failed” or incorrect messages later. – Even if the fun factor could suffer here and there. 😉
