Our fact check
The original photo probably comes from the Grampian Moorland Group in Scotland. The Grampian Moorland Group itself is committed to protecting animals and rare heath moorland landscapes in the Scottish Highlands. In July 2018, various pictures of the dead red squirrel were published and are intended to make people think about how to dispose of plastic waste correctly! The animal was found by a gamekeeper next to a popular scenic and tourist route!

In the Facebook status post, the conservation group said that "disposed plastics pose a threat to wildlife."
Red squirrels in Scotland
Red squirrels are native to Scotland, but their population is declining sharply. The reason for this is the gray squirrels that were released from America into the northwestern English county of Cheshire in 1876. According to the British conservation group Red Squirrels United, there are fewer than 140,000 red squirrels in the UK, the vast majority of them in Scotland.
There are fewer than 140,000 native red squirrels left in the UK
Experts fear they could become extinct in the next 20 years.
