Hacked email addresses are widely used to attempt fraud on contacts.
Friends ask for larger amounts of money via email
Apparently the friend is in an emergency situation, so the emails are short.
However, the account has often been hacked and fraudsters are behind the money demands.
Fraudsters have now also noticed that the owners of hacked email accounts are all too quickly alerted by their contacts when spam is being sent from their account. That's why fraudsters are now taking a more subtle approach: they directly pose as the sender and ask for money!
Have you ever received an email from a friend telling you about an alleged emergency and asking you to transfer money to them? – If so, then caution is advised!
Even if you know the sender's address, it could be an attempted scam because the friend's email account may have been hacked. Before you give someone a hand and actually want to transfer money, you should at least talk to the person you know personally and find out whether they are really in dire straits and whether the email came from them.

In this way, fraud in the Kaiserslautern district could also be prevented. The email account of a 58-year-old man from the Weilerbach community was hacked by unknown perpetrators, and an email to a business friend asked for an amount of several thousand euros.
However, the business friend immediately became suspicious and did not respond to the request, but instead informed his acquaintance. Fortunately, no one suffered any financial damage as a result. The investigation into the fraudsters is ongoing.
