It rings. The person in front of the door mumbles something about the swb and meter box and at the end of the visit presents a document for signature. This involves the termination of the energy contract with swb, the Bremen energy supplier! There are fraudsters and electricity rip-offs at work here who want to foist a new contract on consumers!

Also real swb representatives on the way

“Swb representatives are actually currently traveling in the district,” explains Angela Dittmer, swb press spokeswoman. She adds: “They don’t read the meter readings, but rather advertise the proKlima tariff. However, every one of our employees has a swb ID card and does not gain access to apartments without being asked.”

Tips and Tricks

The Bremen consumer advice center recommends not allowing uninvited visitors into the house in the first place.

“If someone rings your doorbell these days who supposedly comes from the swb, you shouldn't let the person in and especially shouldn't sign anything. In any case, have your ID shown to you first,” advises Sonja Welzel, consumer rights advisor at the Bremen Consumer Center.

If you are unsure, consumers should contact swb or the police. This makes it easy to determine whether the person is actually an employee of swb.

“We ask that the name and contact details of the visit be recorded and passed on to the police so that this can be investigated,” says Angela Dittmer.

Consumers who have already signed the document should also contact swb.

“You should explain the situation there and say that you did not want the energy contract to be terminated,” says Sonja Welzel.

Consumers can revoke the new contract within 14 days because it is a door-to-door transaction.”

Electricity rip-off: Coming soon

  • If uninvited visitors ring the doorbell, they should not be allowed into the apartment or house
  • Consumers should not sign anything at the front door
  • If in doubt, consumers should call the police

Conclusion

Consumers should be skeptical when uninvited visitors appear and under no circumstances allow them into the house. They especially shouldn't allow themselves to be taken by surprise at the front door and pressured into signing anything. Have your ID shown and look at it in peace. If in doubt, you should call the police. Consumers can cancel contracts at their doorstep within 14 days.
