If the power goes out at home, only a specialist can often help. Searching via Google on your smartphone is of course obvious.

But be careful: the risk of coming across dubious offers through the advertisements is high! For example, victims end up on elektriker-mg. at, electrician service. at or electrician.24 hours. expert, where big promises result in poor work at horrendous prices.

If you find yourself in the unpleasant situation that comes with a power outage, beware of fraudulent offers! We repeatedly receive reports from people who have accessed one of the first results when Googling terms such as “Vienna electrician” and then used the services. However, the cheap and incredibly customer-friendly offers soon turned out to be a failure. The services are poorly provided, they cost many times the prices stated on the website and payment must be made in cash. The money is usually lost because contact can only be made using the telephone numbers on the websites. You won't find an imprint.

Advertising for dubious services on Google

For example, if you search for your area and “electrician” on Google, the chances of coming across a fraudulent offer are high. We tried out numerous combinations of terms and each time we came across dubious offers in the advertisements. In the example in the picture you can see the results when searching for “Electrician Lower Austria”. The first three search results redirect to elektriker-mg.at, elektriker-dienst.at and elektriker.24std.expert. All three offers are dubious!

Why shouldn't you order the offers?

The websites of elektriker-mg. at, electrician service. at and electrician.24 hours. expert look appealing at first glance. In addition, they advertise extremely affordable flat-rate prices, short travel times and payment by debit or credit card. Some companies even claim to be “WKO-certified”, but such claims are fictitious.

If you take a closer look, you will notice that there is no imprint on the websites. Other than a phone number for the order, there is no other contact information or any way to find out who you are dealing with.

When an order is placed, a rude awakening quickly follows because the arrival usually takes longer than agreed, the services are provided inadequately and payment suddenly has to be made immediately in cash. Later complaints are usually impossible because there is no possibility of contact.

Tips for emergencies!

  • Whether it's a power outage, a burst pipe or losing your key: all of this often comes at the most inopportune time. Therefore, prepare for emergency situations by saving the numbers of reputable professionals in your phone.
  • If you do need to search for services using your search engine, it may be advisable to avoid the ads marked as such and search the results listed below.
  • If you are promised on the website that you can also pay by card or that there are fixed prices, ask for this on site. Insist on the promises made to you.
  • If threats occur because, for example, you do not want or cannot pay sudden exorbitant prices in cash, it may be advisable to call the police.
