Retire early? Shopping vouchers where you can really save? Unfortunately, these promises of profit often do not lead to the desired result - quite the opposite!
We received the following request from a user:
Hey dear Mimikama team,
in my ACE steering wheel magazine there was a flyer for an instant pension competition where you had to call and enter a lucky code that was on this flyer.
So far so good. Afterwards the nice lady said “that I would be lucky” and would be one of the fastest callers and would therefore get a BonusRoyal card for around €39 per month and thus have the chance of winning even more. […] Do you have any experience with this? The company behind it is elite Premium service AG
The fact check
Elite Premium Service AG is not a blank slate.
The Lower Saxony Consumer Center explains that such lure offers usually do not focus on profit. The aim is to conclude a paid contract. Like with the Bonus Royal Card, .
But consequences such as the collection of private data that is then resold as well as the analysis of the user's purchasing behavior and consent to receive mass advertising are also possible.
A consumer describes a similar situation. A Facebook ad piqued her interest. She followed the link and submitted her details, hoping to receive a shopping voucher.
She then received a call and confirmed her details. Instead of the voucher, however, she received a magazine subscription and a welcome letter for the Bonus Royal Card. In addition, she agreed to receive calls from various companies.
The consumer advice center describes the Bonus Royal Card from Elite Premium Service AG as a customer loyalty and discount system.
The Bonus Royal Card
With the Bonus Royal Card you collect loyalty points – just like with customer cards from other companies. You will receive vouchers, credits and discounts when you use the card. The card costs 39.80 euros per month. At the same time, the company takes out insurance for accidents and transport damage for you.[ 1]
The contract runs for three months. You must cancel at least four weeks before the end of the contract term. If you do not cancel, the contract will be extended by another three months.[ 1)
The data business
But be careful! Think carefully about WHAT data you provide to a company. At the end, this data is processed and the company analyzes the customer.
The consumer advice center advises:
Be careful about what data you provide to companies. All you need to do is provide your name, date of birth and address. This means you clearly identify yourself. Do not provide any bank details. Many providers also ask about your marital status, profession, hobbies and other aspects. Clarify for yourself what information you are feeding corporations with. We advise you to disclose your data sparingly. Read the pre-written declarations on the forms carefully. The companies use these passages to regulate how they process your data. You don't want the company to process your data? Do not check this box. This should not prevent participation in the customer program.
The website Spam Info describes its experiences with Elite Premium Service AG.
Result:
Promises of prizes are usually intended to attract users who will ultimately agree to a bonus card or advertising.
In addition, you agree to provide the company with your personal data.
It is not clear whether you actually win anything from this bonus card. In any case, not inconsiderable costs arise during the competition.
