Since Elon Musk took over Twitter for $44 billion ( that almost reads like a chain letter 🙂 ), many users have turned their backs on the microblogging platform. Bot Sentinel, a software that tracks fake behavior on the Twitter app, has identified around three million accounts that are used daily. Afterwards, almost 870,000 accounts were deactivated and over 500,000 were blocked by Musk because they had been inactive for too long. Around 237 million users are online every day.

If the trend continues, Musk will have problems, according to insiders, especially since he has also laid off a number of senior management members.

Experimental balloons from conservatives

Meanwhile, users who are close to conservatives in the USA are feeling the momentum and are launching test balloons. They have a long history of circulating conspiracy theories that have been debunked as false, such as those about COVID-19 and the 2020 presidential election. They want to test whether Twitter's policies on misinformation are still being enforced.

Popular right-wing pundits tweeted catchphrases like “ivermectin” and “Trump won” to see what would happen. Ivermectin, a cheap drug that kills parasites in people and animals, has been promoted by some Republican politicians and conservative talk show hosts as an effective way to combat the coronavirus. But there is no evidence of this. How Twitter will react is still unclear.

Ex-Ku Klux Klan boss is already lurking

Before Musk's reign at Twitter, radicals were locked out and may now be returning. In addition to Trump, this could include conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and the former leader of the racist Ku Klux Klan, David Duke. “I am very happy that Twitter is now in sensible hands and is no longer run by radical leftists, lunatics and lunatics who truly hate our country,” Trump said.

Elon Musk bought a platform, not people

“Elon Musk bought a platform, not people,” says Jennifer Grygiel, social media expert and professor at Syracuse University in New York State. “We still have a choice about how we communicate with each other.” There could be a flight to quality if Twitter sinks into chaos under Musk, the scientist concludes.
