Even consumer advocates are not immune to fraudsters and shady profiteers. There was already an incident on November 3rd, 2022 that resulted in emails containing a dubious link being sent from an employee mailbox at the Saxony Consumer Center. These spam emails announced a supposed migration of the “Outlook Web App” or “Web Apps” in general and asked for an email and password via a link.

Anyone who receives such “Outlook Web App” emails should delete them immediately

Under no circumstances should the link contained therein be opened or personal data entered in the mask that then appears.

“Anyone who has already provided personal information based on this email should immediately change the password of the email account and also renew the access data for all other services linked to this account,” explains Sebastian Hagen, IT expert at the Saxony Consumer Center. “Affected consumers can of course contact us directly and obtain expert advice,” adds Andreas Eichhorst, board member of the Saxony Consumer Center.

The incident was stopped internally after a very short time. A criminal complaint was filed against unknown persons and the Saxon data protection officer was informed about the incident.
