The photo and the text convey emotions.
You immediately feel almost forced to imagine what this young man, this soldier, must be like. What brings him to tears? Did he have to say goodbye to his family? Is he afraid? What's going on inside him? It is obvious that such an emotional image spreads rapidly on social media, such as here on Facebook .

“This Ukrainian boy/man is called to fight against other Russian boys/men.
Some do their best. God bless you…"

But this photo does not come from the current Ukraine war. It was already recorded in 2019. The label that this is a Ukrainian soldier is incorrect.

The story behind this picture

Fin Doherty was six years old when his brother Jeff, aged 20, was killed by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Even then, he decided to follow in his brother's footsteps, as The Sun reported in December 2019.
This article includes, among other photos, the one that is now being shared on social media.
Here, however, the caption reads that Fin Doherty burst into tears after receiving his beret at the end of a 19-week training course. Because it wasn't “just any” beret, but that of his brother Jeff. Fin Doherty told The Sun that receiving Jeff's beret meant a lot to him.

In 2020, Fin Doherty was awarded the Inspiring Others Award, as the Ministry of Defense UK posted on Twitter :

Private Fin Doherty has been nominated for the Inspiring Others award at the @TheSun Military Awards.
After his brother died during a deployment in Afghanistan, Fin decided to join @TheParachuteReg in his brother's honor. #Millies

The article can be found on the website of “The Sun” .

Conclusion

The photo does not come from Ukraine, is not current, and does not show any Ukrainian soldiers.

The photo of the soldier is real, but dates back to 2019 and was taken by photographer Glen Minikin.
It shows Fin Doherty, who follows in the footsteps of his brother Jeff, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2008, and joined the Paratrooper Regiment.
