The claim
Erik Olsen or Erik Ollsen is named on social media as the head of the investigation into the Nordstream sabotage matter and is said to have died after a bee sting.
Our conclusion
The head of the Nordstream sabotage investigation is called Mats Ljungqvist and is a Swedish public prosecutor. He is not deceased and is still investigating.
The name Erik Olsen or Eric Ol(l)son has caused a stir on several occasions. Not just now, but also in June 2022, we reported on a US Admiral Eric Olson who, it was claimed, was arrested by Russian soldiers in Ukraine. This also turned out to be fake. We reported HERE .
How did the story of the supposed head of the investigation, Erik Olsen / Ollsen, come about?
A tweet spread rapidly on Twitter and other social networks, claiming that the investigator of the Nordstream attack was called Erik Ollsen and that he was killed by a bee sting. He was cremated a few hours after death.
The original source has since been deleted, but a screenshot in a Facebook post ( archived here ) shows the tweet.

Where does this source come from?
The original original tweet has since been deleted. However, a source was given there that leads to the Russian social network “VK”. The supposed death of the head of the investigation was also written there in French. In addition, this post contained a photo of a man who was said to be the head of the investigation. ( archived here )

The dpa found out through a reverse image search that the man in the picture is not called Erik Olsen or Ollsen and has nothing to do with the investigation, but that it is the photo of the former mayor Zsolt Borkai of the Hungarian city of Győr. The photo can be found here
To Erik Olsen
There is a marine researcher in Norway named Erik Olsen. Because of the tweet with the news of his supposed death, he was contacted by many concerned parties. Olsen stated that he had to respond to numerous tweets that he had nothing to do with Nordstream 2 and that he was fortunately alive.
"I had to post several tweets to point out that I'm not the Nordstream 2 guy - and that I'm very much alive 😀"
Translation of tweet by Erik Olsen (@erikjsolsen)
In fact, Erik Olsen died in October 2022 at the age of just 59. He was president and CEO of a tire company in the USA and had nothing to do with the investigation into the attack on the Nordstream pipelines. It is not clear whether this Erik Olsen died of a bee sting.
By the way, the head of the investigation into the Baltic Sea pipeline sabotage is called Mats Ljungqvist and is a Swedish prosecutor. There is no Erik Olsen / Ollsen in the entire investigation team. The Swedish prosecutor is still alive to this day.
Conclusion
The story surrounding the death of the investigator into the Baltic Sea pipeline sabotage from a bee sting is fictitious.
- The head of the investigation into the Nordstream sabotage is not named Erik Olsen / Ollsen and is not deceased, but is still investigating.
- The marine researcher Erik Olsen was not mentioned here either, and he also confirmed on social networks that he was fine.
- In fact, an Erik Olsen, who was president and CEO of a US tire company, died in October 2022. Exactly what caused Olsen's death was not revealed.
This fake story also shows how important it is to check the sources carefully before news is spread further. Claims are made too quickly and are supported by images from the internet.
