A man from the northern district lost a four-digit amount of money to fraudsters by making advance payments using so-called credit cards.
In July, the 60-year-old became aware of an advertisement on an online advertising platform offering erotic massages. He replied and received a mobile phone number and the request to continue communication via WhatsApp. The services and payment methods were agreed upon during the chat. Accordingly, the man should get credit cards and send the codes before a first meeting. He would then be picked up.
Although the 60-year-old followed the instructions, the promised meeting did not take place. The man therefore announced in a cell phone chat that he would contact the police. He was then given a new mobile phone number so that he could come to an agreement with the alleged “superior”.
The man should buy more credit cards
In this chat, however, the man was once again tricked into buying more prepaid cards and sharing the codes. Over a period of four weeks, the fraudsters managed to take a total of 1,200 euros out of the 60-year-old's pocket using constantly new flimsy excuses. Only then did the man decide to report it to the police. The investigations by the specialist commissioner for fraud offenses are ongoing.
