The situation is becoming critical for companies - the European Union's (EU) package of regulations that has recently come into force requires organizations in many industries to provide stringent protection against cyber attacks. The directive applies not only to operators of critical infrastructure, but to organizations of all types and sizes. “Many companies are not yet clear to what extent NIS 2 affects their own actions. The fact is: the law affects practically all companies right up to the management level. Cybersecurity failures must be identified and eliminated as quickly as possible,” warns Rainer M. Richter, Vice President EMEA & APAC at Horizon3.ai . The company has a solution for business, developed by numerous former members of cyber defense teams within international armed forces. NodeZero enables autonomous pentesting – i.e. constant simulated attacks on your own infrastructure without any risk. “In contrast to automatic pentesting, our method of autonomous penetration testing is not simply a series of tests. NodeZero uses an AI-supported sequence of tests to examine the entire infrastructure and find all exploitable attack vectors. This means that vulnerabilities can be identified, remedied and re-checked for correct security in the shortest possible time without having to rely on the cybersecurity specialists that are usually required,” Richter continued. Professional pen testers, on the other hand, can hardly fulfill their own orders - the waiting times are long and will become even longer with NIS 2.
Autonomous pentests bring automated security
The central requirement of the EU: IT security becomes part of corporate management and is thus shifted from the IT department to the company management. Organizations must implement risk management and contingency plans. A system for quickly reporting incidents to the supervisory authorities will also be mandatory in the future. Autonomous pentesting, which can take place while all systems are running, also helps: NodeZero from Horizon3.ai offers pentesting-as-a-service, autonomous and user-friendly and therefore equally suitable for use in companies and by professional pentesters. Professional reports help detect vulnerabilities and eliminate them. Horizon3.ai model works according to three principles: Find, fix and verify. Potential security gaps that can be exploited by hackers are found, can be specifically eliminated and then immediately checked to ensure that they are functioning properly. Continuously checking the infrastructure also provides long-term protection, while external pen testers usually only play out the attack scenario once a year. “With our NodeZero solution, the pentesting function is not just a feature, but a permanent element of cyber security and also verifies whether other security measures such as EDR or SIEM actually work,” emphasizes Rainer M. Richter from Horizon3.ai .
EU all-round package for the economy as a whole
NodeZero uses its own European instance for customers in Europe to ensure the highest level of data security. “The level of security that can be achieved in this way is higher than all previous measures. This not only refers to compliance with NIS 2, but also to more efficient protection against attackers. Our algorithms are regularly updated and are therefore always at eye level with the hackers – regardless of whether they are economically or politically motivated,” explains Rainer M. Richter from Horizon3.ai . For the first time, the NIS 2 guideline also includes small companies with at least 50 employees and a turnover of ten million euros. These companies often only have limited resources in the IT department - so automated protection is necessary. “NIS 2 concerns everyone, from medium-sized companies to the Dax 40,” emphasized Iris Plöger, responsible for digitalization at the Federal Association of German Industries (BDI), at a conference at the end of last year. In addition, there are severe penalties that organizations face: up to ten million euros or two percent of global sales for facilities “with high criticality”. Other companies are punished with up to seven million euros or 1.4 percent of the proceeds. “Now the pressure is coming from both sides – not only are attackers threatening the existence of companies, but also security gaps that result in fines. There is an urgent need for action!” summarizes Rainer M. Richter from Horizon3.ai .
About Horizon3.ai
Horizon3.ai 's mission is to find and remediate potential attack opportunities for attackers before they can be exploited. NodeZero is a software solution for autonomous penetration testing and is available as a SaaS offering for companies and institutions. In this way, professional pen testers can expand their offering with automated services, but companies can also check the security and integrity of their infrastructure without special expertise and specialized IT departments. NodeZero works through the eyes of the attacker, identifying any weaknesses in the security architecture, while IT teams can direct their resources to resolving key issues and future-proofing their networks. Not only can legal requirements be adhered to, but the highest possible level of safety can also be achieved. Horizon3.ai was founded in 2019 by former military personnel and is headquartered in San Francisco, California.
