Highly specialized software scans countless username and password combinations!

More than half of login attempts on social media portals are automated attempts by fraudsters. Programs like “Sentry MBA” quickly run through millions of username and password combinations and crack them. Fraudsters also create many fake accounts.

Lucrative source of income

If the hacked user has been on the platform for a few years, then the social media company is less likely to take action against the attack. This is more likely to happen with a brand new account. Such hijacked accounts serve to provide false information and some as a source of income, for example with sex as a lure.

Chatbots start flirty conversations with others on social media. If the person you are talking to agrees to continue the conversation, they will be asked to register on a dating website and provide their credit card details. These are then stolen by the fraudsters.

Identical passwords are dangerous

Another result of the report: Nine percent of login attempts on online banking websites are made by scammers. According to experts, passwords that are used for several services at the same time are particularly vulnerable to hacking attacks.
