Investigations against members of the “United Patriots” chat group for preparing explosive attacks and other acts of violence
Nationwide searches and arrests
Since October 2021, the LKA, under the direction of the Koblenz Public Prosecutor's Office - State Central Office for the Prosecution of Extremism and Terrorism (ZeT_rlp), has been conducting an investigation against a group whose declared goal is to destroy power supply facilities in order to cause a longer-lasting nationwide power outage. According to the accused, this was intended to cause civil war-like conditions and ultimately overthrow the democratic system in Germany. The kidnapping of well-known public figures was also part of the plans.
According to media reports, it is the well-known public figure, the German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD).
Lauterbach tweeted: “Corona policy is increasingly being abused by enemies of the state. Violence is intended to damage democracy. Thanks to investigators and the BKA who helped me. I want to continue to bring opponents and supporters of my work together. But I don’t give up on violence.”
People can be assigned to the Corona protest scene and the Reich Citizens' Movement
The LKA's extensive investigations in close cooperation with ZeT_rlp made it possible to identify numerous people nationwide who could be attributed to the group and who supported the plans. The people can be assigned to the Corona protest scene and the Reich Citizens' Movement. Some are already known to the police. Yesterday, coordinated nationwide measures led to the seizure of weapons (in particular 14 long guns and seven handguns as well as a military weapon, namely a Kalashnikov), ammunition in the mid three-digit range, cash amounting to 8,900 euros, numerous gold bars and silver coins, and foreign currency worth over 10,000 euros and the arrest of four accused.
From midday, police forces in Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg, Brandenburg, Bavaria, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia searched 20 objects. A total of 3 public prosecutors and around 270 civil servants were deployed, including special units.
The accused are German citizens aged 55, 54, 50, 42 and 41. They are accused of preparing a serious act of violence that endangers the state and violating the Weapons and War Weapons Control Act. The measures lasted until late afternoon. The emergency services also seized cell phones, various data carriers, notebooks and numerous written documents relating to the plans for the coup, fake vaccination certificates and fake test certificates. The criminalistic evaluation of these items, especially data storage devices and cell phones, will take a considerable amount of time.
Arrest warrants have been applied for against the arrested suspects. They are to be brought before the responsible investigating judge today.
+Update+
The Koblenz District Court - investigating judge - has ordered pre-trial detention against all four accused who were provisionally arrested yesterday. The accused have not provided any information. Pre-trial detention is carried out in various pre-trial detention centers in Rhineland-Palatinate.
