After the new Facebook logo and the new emojis on Facebook, the next innovation: Once upon a time there was a single Facebook profile. Now Facebook has given us the power to have four - all under one roof!

Why four different profiles at all?

Social media has become an integral part of our everyday lives. But how many times have we asked ourselves whether we really need to share this one post with everyone? Sometimes we want to celebrate professional successes with our colleagues without grandma asking what exactly this “new job title” means. On the other hand, there are moments that we only want to share with our closest family or our best friends - like the funny cat dance on Sunday morning.

Facebook has recognized this and given us the ability to segment our online personality into four different profiles. This means we can communicate specifically with different circles of friends without having to constantly switch back and forth between different accounts. This not only means more control over our privacy, but also more relevance to the people we share our content with.

First steps into a segmented online self

If you think this all sounds too complicated, let me assure you: it's dead easy! To use this feature, go to the settings section of the Facebook app.

To do this, tap on the three vertical lines in the top right corner and find the option directly under your profile picture and name.

It is possible to have up to four different profiles in one account. First, a main username is defined that begins with an “@”.

Individual names can then be set for each profile. However, one should not try to create completely different “identities”. Depending on your profile, certain contacts or groups can be added to the friends list. In this way, profiles can be created for different areas of life such as work, leisure or family.

The possibilities are almost unlimited and switching between profiles is seamless and without wasting time. This way you can be sure that the right content always ends up with the right people.

Privacy first!

At a time when data is the new gold, protecting privacy is high on many users' list of concerns. Facebook, which is often criticized for its data protection practices, appears to have spared no effort this time to ensure that its users' privacy is maintained even when using the new multiple profiles.

Mark Zuckerberg and his team have worked hard to ensure that the privacy settings of the new profiles work properly. When a new profile is created, a number of default privacy settings are automatically set to protect the user from unwanted prying eyes. Of course, these settings can be adapted to the individual needs and wishes of each user. A word of caution: Initially, some popular Facebook features such as the Marketplace or the “Dating” feature will not be available for these new profiles. But who knows what the future will bring?

Looking into the future: what awaits us?

While the excitement surrounding the new profiles continues, rumors are already circulating about the next steps. Facebook Messenger, an essential communication tool for many, is not yet available for segmented profiles. But no worry! It seems only a matter of time before it is integrated.

Facebook has already indicated that they are working hard to integrate Messenger and perhaps even other services into these new profiles. This means that in the near future we may see even more features and options that make our online interactions even more diverse and personal. So stay tuned, because Facebook's journey into the world of multi-profiles has just begun!

Conclusion

Facebook's latest innovation is a game changer. It promises to let us segment our online lives the way we like while providing a seamless experience. It remains to be seen whether this innovation will be a game-changer or just another feature in the endless list of Facebook updates. For now, it's definitely an exciting tool worth exploring!
