“Hey, who stole my comments?” – Facebook users are always surprised when they don’t find any comments, but they clearly see that there should be some!

As is often the case, this has something to do with Facebook's settings. Strictly speaking, this is about the “Ranking for comments” function.

Comment Ranking Feature

This feature is a personalized order that is only available for comments on Page posts. If the site admin deactivates the ranking for comments, they will again be displayed in chronological order by default.

But as a visitor you can also change the order of the comments on a post. But this only affects how YOU see the comments. Other users see the comments arranged as their settings allow. This means that if a site admin sets the order differently than you, your changes will not be permanent.

So if you don't see any more comments, even though you see that so many comments have been made, you have to click on the small arrow next to "Most relevant" .

Here you now have various options. Now change the selection to “ All comments ” and all comments will be displayed chronologically again. Of course, you can not only change the function for a post, but also deactivate it.

Disable ranking for comments

So which comments you see has to do with the “comment ranking” function. When ranking is enabled, the comments with the most likes or replies, as well as comments from friends or verified profiles and pages, appear first by default. Ranking is automatically activated for all pages and popular public profiles.

If you deactivate this function, the comments will be displayed chronologically as usual. Except for live videos - here the ranking is always activated automatically, even if you change the setting.

Here's how to disable ranking for comments:

For profiles
To deactivate ranking for comments for your profile, click on the small arrow pointing down .

Then select “Settings” and link to “ Public Posts ”. If you now on “ Edit Ranking for comments , you can choose between “ On ” and “ Off ”.

For pages
You can only do this if you are an admin of the page. So as an admin, click on “ Settings ” and then under “ General ” on “ Ranking for comments ”. Disable ranking by unchecking the box next to “ Show most relevant comments by default .”

Then all you have to do is save the changes .

Comments reported as spam
Sometimes comments are hidden by the automatic filter because they have been identified as spam. This applies, for example, to comments that contain words that have been blocked from a page.

These comments will then no longer be visible to the public, but will only be displayed grayed out to the page admin. The user can then still show the comment publicly by hovering the mouse over the comment and clicking on “ Show again ”.
