Zuckerberg bows to the new EU data protection law – but not completely. Nevertheless, one would like to be guided by the “spirit” of the EU regulations.

As the Federal Office for Information Security and derStandard report, social media operators such as Facebook must become aware of their responsibility towards users. After the data scandal with the company Cambridge Analytica, Facebook is now moving in the right direction and deleting hundreds of dubious accounts.

Last but not least, the company Facebook has to adapt to the new EU data protection law - but it is sometimes not yet able to fulfill this task worldwide. According to Mark Zuckerberg, the company wants to comply with stricter EU data protection law and has already implemented “most of the data protection precautions”. However, Facebook does not yet fully comply with the new data protection law - “but they want to be guided by the “spirit” of the EU regulations in the planned global adjustments to the data protection rules.”

A foundation stone has already been laid, however, with “hundreds” of accounts associated with a Russian “troll factory” being shut down, which are also suspected of being behind the infamous campaign to influence the American presidential election in 2016.

They have “repeatedly attempted to deceive and manipulate people around the world and we no longer want them on Facebook”

New EU General Data Protection Regulation

The new regulation will come into force in May 2018. The press writes the following:

The aim is to better protect personal data and to make the processing of data by companies more uniform. If companies violate the requirements, they face fines of up to 20 million euros or up to four percent of their global turnover. Apple and several other technology companies have already announced that they also want to give their customers in the USA and other regions the same data protection as Europeans.
