Facebook wants to become more popular among young users. The short video service “Reels”, which is now available worldwide on the social network, is intended to help. Facebook Reels is intended to be a counterweight to TikTok.

Facebook is launching its short video service “Facebook Reels” worldwide. The company announced this in a broadcast on Tuesday evening. With this, Facebook is likely to try to stop the downward trend. Facebook writes:

Facebook Reels now available worldwide and new monetization options for creators

  • Facebook Reels is now available in more than 175 countries - so creators around the world can grow their communities.
  • To enable creators to make money with Facebook Reels, we are testing overlay ads on Facebook - initially with banner and sticker ads.
  • The new features of Facebook Reels include “Remix”, sharing Facebook Stories and much more.
  • Facebook Reels appear in the feed, in groups and under the Watch tab. Anyone who watches a Reel can follow the creator directly in the video, like and comment on it or share it with friends.
  • We're also looking at how to make it easier for creators to share Reels on both Facebook and Instagram, e.g. B. through cross-posting.

Meta's fastest growing content format

Almost half of the time people spend on Facebook is watching videos. Reels is by far the fastest-growing content format on both Facebook and Instagram. We want to give creators the best way to get discovered, engage with their audience, and monetize their content with Reels.

We're making it easier for content creators to monetize their content with Facebook Reels

total, we are investing $1 billion in content creators , the Reels Play bonus program is part of it.
Participating creators receive up to $35,000 per month based on the views of their Reels. In the coming months we will expand the bonus program to other countries. We're also developing long-term monetization options for Facebook Reels through creator share of ad revenue and fan support.
The test of Facebook Reels overlay ads will be expanded to all creators in the USA, Canada and Mexico and to other countries in the coming weeks - it starts with two formats: banner advertising, which appears as a semi-transparent overlay at the bottom of a Facebook Reels appears as well as sticker advertising. Any content creator in the US, Canada, and Mexico who participates in the Facebook In-Stream Ads program is automatically eligible to monetize their Reels with ads.
By mid-March, these tests will expand to creators in almost all countries where in-stream ads are available. Creators can learn more about overlay ads in our Meta for Creators blog . Facebook stars in Reels
