From December 1, 2022, the innovations regarding profile advertisements will gradually come into force. In this context, Facebook is removing the “Interested in” field, for example, where users can currently reveal their sexual orientation . The information “ religious interests ”, “ political interests ” and, if applicable, addresses should also be deleted from the profiles.

As the website t3n.de reports , a spokesman for the company has confirmed the plan, but it is not yet known why Facebook is taking this step. So far, a spokesman has only commented on this to the US media TechCrunch

“As part of our efforts to make Facebook cleaner and more user-friendly, we are removing a handful of profile fields. We will send notifications to people who have filled out these fields to inform them that these fields will be removed. This change does not affect the ability to share this information about yourself elsewhere on Facebook.”

Accordingly, it should only be about the profile fields and people still have sufficient opportunities (e.g. in the form of posts) to share the interests on Facebook that should now be removed from the profile.

Users should now be informed step by step

Social media consultant Matt Navarra also informed about the innovation on Facebook in a tweet He shared two screenshots of a message sent to him by Facebook informing him that they would be removing certain information from his account starting in December. He was even asked to download a copy of his data before it was deleted.

Either way, all other users who share something that Facebook no longer wants to have in the profile bar in the future could also be informed about the removal.

Not the first innovations in the Facebook feed

But the removal of personal information from profiles is not the only innovation on Facebook recently. Facebook had already changed a few things on the platform in July. This included, among other things, dividing the content into feed and home tabs . The idea was to allow users to filter posts according to their preferences. In the feed tab you can choose whether you want to see “ALL” posts or just the favorites from your friends, groups or pages. This ensures that no more posts from close people are missed.

In the home tab, in addition to some of your friends' posts, you mainly see those that are recommended by the algorithm, i.e. posts and videos from pages that you don't follow on Facebook.

Better news feed controls also serve preference

Facebook adjusted the news feed again in October 2022 with two buttons: “ See more By clicking on the buttons, users can better tell the algorithm what they personally like, what they would like to see more of and what they don't. This makes Facebook much more successful at keeping users on the platform for as long as possible.

In a statement, the social network wrote: "By offering more ways to integrate direct feedback into feed rankings, we are making our artificial intelligence systems smarter and more responsive."
