Pages on Facebook repeatedly claim to be part of the company and threaten that pages will be closed due to alleged copyright violations if you do not verify yourself via a certain link.
But these links are phishing scams, which means you will lose your entire account!

The fake accounts

Currently, the fake accounts always have the name “Social Network Registry Corporation” followed by a random number. Their posts look like this:

The Posts of the Alleged “Social Network Registry Corporation”

The text of the posts always reads:

“It appears someone has reported your page for identity theft and impersonating an individual or business.
To prevent this, we need to verify your identity. Follow the link below:”

Various companies find these postings in their timeline, and you can see why this is the case if you click on “Show more” on the posts:

Many companies are tagged
Many companies are tagged

Apparently many companies are tagged on Facebook by a bot, which can be seen from the fact that some companies are tagged incorrectly. The posting was specially designed with many points between each other so that these companies are not visible unless you click on “Show more” in order to disguise the fact that it is essentially a mass posting.

What happens when you click on the link

If you click on the link, you will be directed to a page that does not belong to Facebook. This claims that the company website has no longer been publicly visible since April:

On the following pages, you should now leave your email address, password (!), name and date of birth... which will of course then be sent in full to the fraudsters, who then have full access to the company's Facebook page . Of course, we used fantasy data instead (apologies to all the real Hans Dampfs out there).

Tip

If you are unsure whether a login page is real, you should simply try to log in with imaginary data, for example username: serfgerfxd@esrgrte.com , password: fgbvdrffgbcvfddg .

Pages like the one above often require double entry, but you can also use alphabet jumble for the second entry. If this input works, you can be sure that you have landed on a fake page!

Such fraudulent sites appear again and again, and they often have names like “Facebook Support” or “Facebook Security”.
