A video shows how refugees who are said to have disrupted a Krampus parade are beaten up by residents.

At least that's what the widely circulated video claims. In it you can see several men who are obviously being chased and beaten by the actors during a Krampus parade. The user's descriptive text: “I n South Tyrol, asylum seekers tried to disrupt the Krampus parade. But they did the math without the defensive residents. It's sad what the EU does to the countries "

Other users also re-uploaded or distributed it with similar texts and claims.

What can't be seen in the video?

Residents beating up refugees for disrupting the procession.

What is ACTUALLY seen in the video?

Krampus actors who traditionally parade through the streets of a city and encounter people who voluntarily and deliberately disrupt the procession... only to be beaten up! The Krampus tradition, as practiced in some regions of Austria and South Tyrol, may seem strange to outsiders, but it is a well-kept tradition.

The Krampus parade

The Krampus parade takes place in Vipiteno every year on December 5th. Tuifl Vipiteno dress up as Krampus (a frightening figure accompanied by Santa Claus who punishes naughty children) and parade through the streets of the city center.

The beating

These parades are often pretty rough, but let's just let one of the participants have his say, namely the gentleman in the blue jacket who can be seen in the video:

“Hello you ignorant critics,

It's time for me to speak up, because I'm the one in the blue jacket who's lying on the ground and getting kicked. For me personally, this video isn't bad at all. Like every year, I and my friends went out early in the morning to look for the devils. We can relate to this because we are looking forward to Christmas like little children.

Devil's Day is the absolute best day of the year for many Vipiteno residents. To outsiders, what can be seen in the video may be brutal, but for us it's completely normal. If you wait for the end of the video, you can also see that we “Tratzers” (Tratzers are those who annoy the devils and willingly take beatings because they like it) are all approaching the devils again as one unit.

These scenes in the video took place around 1:00-1:30 p.m. and we Tratzers continued like this until late in the evening. I think this shows, firstly, that it really isn't that bad and secondly, that we like it. Sure there are a few bruises the next day, but I've never had any serious pain and don't know anyone who has because we're all prepared for it and dressed accordingly.

And briefly about the racist accusations: I am a native of Vipiteno and know everyone who can be seen in the video, be it Teufel or Tratzer. None of them are migrants.

I stand by the devils Vipiteno and because I don't want anything to endanger this day, I'm writing these lines.

Kind regards, the Tratzer from the service Maximilian Ploner”

The “Tuifl Vipiteno” also defend themselves against the claims (sic!)

“There are a number of false reports circulating on Facebook. Anyone who knows the Tuifltog in Vipiteno will hopefully be able to judge for themselves what is true and what is fictitious.

(PS Nobody denies the video! However, all racist accusations are resolutely rejected because they are absolutely not true! The “tratzers” in the video are also friends and acquaintances of the Tuifl Vipiteno)

In addition, the following press release was published by “Tuifl Sterzing” on Facebook on December 8th, 2019:

Tuifl Vipiteno December 8th at 7:39 p.m. · PRESS RELEASE --- COMUNICATO STAMPA
Tuifl Vipiteno / December 8th at 7:39 p.m. / PRESS RELEASE — COMUNICATO STAMPA

as " Südtirol News " reports, some Krampus are said to have attacked a street police officer who was off duty at the time, and who is said to have suffered trauma and bruises as a result.

Conclusion

No, there are no refugees being beaten in the video who are said to have disrupted the Krampus parade, but rather spectators who are deliberately provoking the “Tuifl” in order to get beaten up.
