Studies show that older people are particularly likely to die as a result of flu vaccinations.
At least that's what a page with the long title " cancer patient advocate foundation " claims. According to this, two studies, which were even financed by a vaccine manufacturer and are intended to show the safety of vaccinations, prove exactly the opposite: seniors die particularly often after flu vaccinations.

The title of the article the query revolves around is:
“Flu shot or the last shot before death?”
It goes on to say:
“Researchers have found that flu vaccines are killing seniors in record numbers, and mortality rates are rising.”
In the further course of the article, the specific numbers from the studies are listed, but this is quite confusing, which is why we would like to present the pure numbers from the article again clearly here. All participating adults were 65 years of age or older.

The numbers from the article:
1. Study:
- 2,573 participants with high dose Fluzone, 156 participants with a serious adverse event (6.06 percent), 16 deaths within 6 months (0.62 percent)
- 1,260 participants with regular Fluzone vaccination, 93 participants with a serious adverse event within 6 months (7.38 percent), 7 deaths within 6 months (0.56 percent)
2. Study:
- 15,992 participants with high dose Fluzone, 1,323 participants with a serious adverse event (8.27 percent), 83 deaths within 6 months (0.52 percent)
- 15,991 participants with regular Fluzone vaccination, 1,442 participants with serious adverse events (9.02 percent), 84 deaths within 6 months (0.53 percent)
Unfortunately, the studies were not linked in the article by the “cancer patient advocate foundation”. find the second study (which is more informative anyway because it has more participants) . In fact, this study was also sponsored by Sanofi Pasteur.
The study
This took place in 2011 and 2012 at 126 locations in the USA and Canada. The aim of the study was to test the effectiveness of high-dose vaccinations compared to normal, regular vaccinations.
Now here are the numbers:

The death rate in the USA
Unfortunately, the age of the participants is only given as “65 years or older” in the study, so let’s take a look at the general death rate for older people in the USA :
- Age: 65 – 74 = 1,790.9 out of 100,000 = 1.79 percent
- Age: 75 – 84 = 4,472.6 out of 100,000 = 4.47 percent
- Age 85 and older = 1,3573.6 per 100,000 = 13.57 percent
On average, the annual death rate for people aged 65 – 85 and older is 6.61 percent. Since life expectancy in the USA is 78.6 years , we can lower the percentage so that it is between 1.79 and 4.47 percent in relation to the study.
Compare:
- Death rate according to the studies: 0.62 percent and 0.53 percent (highest value in each case)
- Death rate in the USA: between 1.79 percent and 4.47 percent (depending on age)
Since the US statistics only show the annual death rate, not the period in which people died, these values can be lowered a little and would still be above the death rates in the study.

Did the participants die as a result of the vaccination?
The temporal connection between a vaccination and a death is not immediately proof that it was due to the vaccination. This can only be clearly proven if, for example, an acute, undesirable reaction occurs, such as anaphylactic shock resulting in death.
However, the fact that a person with an average age of 75 dies within 180 days of receiving a flu shot is not in itself evidence either. On the contrary, the statistics mentioned above actually show a lower mortality rate.
Conclusion
The article from “cancer patient advocate foundation” shows some correct numbers, but without putting them in relation to the general death rates. It simply claims that seniors died as a result of flu shots, but there is no evidence to support this. On the contrary, the study figures even show a reduced mortality rate.
The rest of the article is basically just unproven anecdotes (" People have written to us "), little conspiracy theories (" The home doesn't say what they died of, but we all know the real reason "), and pointless questions (" What's he like? Benefits of a flu vaccine ").
