Trust in the food industry is not exactly great. But are the findings in this video really that “shocking”?

Fact check: There are synthetic fibers in cupcakes! It is understandable that consumers do not trust many foods. Some sites often report alarmistly about poisons in food. A video is now intended to demonstrate how simple methods can be used to determine that food has been manipulated.

Do these simple methods really do what they claim?

In the video, a cupcake is held in a sieve under running water and crushed. What's left is a light, tough mass, which the video says is synthetic fibers.

The answer is simple kitchen chemistry: it's gluten.
Cupcakes are usually made from wheat flour.
This flour contains this natural protein - just like rye, spelt, barley, oats and other grains. The nutritional value of this protein is rather low. However, gluten ensures that the flour combines with water to form a dough. That’s why it’s also called “glue protein”. When you mash the cupcake, all other ingredients in the cupcake are washed away, leaving the “dough glue” behind. And it is of natural origin.

The claim “Synthetic fibers are found in cupcakes” is false.

It is not an artificial fiber, but a natural protein.
