LGBTQ+ advocates reported false statements about the HIV drug PrEP
Truvada, also known as PrEP, is an HIV risk reduction medication. There are currently advertisements circulating on Facebook and Instagram that spread false information about this drug. According to advertising, side effects can occur when taking the preventive pill, including kidney or bone problems. However, there is no evidence to support this. The fact is, however, that this medication is extremely effective with an HIV risk reduction of 99 percent when infection is suspected.

Behind the advertisers there appear to be lawyers who want to win over members of the LGBTQ+ community to file a lawsuit against the drug. – Justified by the alleged side effects.
Open letter to Facebook
52 LGBTQ+ groups have now sent a letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to take action against these advertisements, as cnet reports. In this, the LGBTQ+ group GLAAD expressed itself as follows:
By allowing these advertisements to persist on their platforms, Facebook and Instagram are convincing at-risk individuals to avoid PrEP, invariably leading to avoidable HIV infections. You are harming public health. Over 50 experts on AIDS and public health have provided research studies and first-hand knowledge that PrEP is safe, effective, and should be used by people who want to protect against HIV transmission.
By allowing these ads to continue running on their platforms, Facebook and Instagram are convincing vulnerable people to avoid PrEP, which invariably leads to preventable HIV infections. They therefore harm public health. Over 50 AIDS and public health experts have provided research studies and first-hand knowledge that PrEP is safe, effective and should be used by people who want to protect themselves from HIV transmission.
Demands on Facebook
GLAAD's communications director, Rich Ferraro, is demanding that Facebook and its third-party reviewers provide information showing how they believe the claims contained in the advertisement are accurate.

In addition, these ads should be removed immediately and the guidelines for advertising should also be reviewed and revised. This false information may make HIV diseases possible if the affected people shy away from taking PrEP under the influence of advertising.
A person representing Facebook commented:
“We value our work with LGBTQ groups and constantly seek their input. While these ads do not violate our ad policies nor have they been rated false by third-party fact-checkers, we're always examining ways to improve and help these key groups better understand how we apply our policies.”“We value our work with LGBTQ groups and continually seek their input.
