But the warnings of an earthquake in Germany were false news.
Numerous calls to the police
WDR reports that the police in Duisburg received around 1,000 calls yesterday, February 14, 2023, around 11 p.m. about concerns about an earthquake . The police were also frequently contacted in Cologne, writes the Süddeutsche Zeitung .
Postings on social media, which were spread primarily in the Romanian community, gave cause for concern, fear and sometimes panic. The police in Cologne also reported that people left a high-rise complex to seek safety outside. In a conversation with police officers, people said that there were warnings about an earthquake in Germany in closed Facebook groups.

In a video on Facebook, people who had left their homes can be seen talking to a police officer. Clearly heard – the answer: “That’s fake news”
The text - translated accordingly - to the video: “At 2:30 a.m. on the street in Germany: All because of fake posts that put people in a panic. People were panicked. Nobody knows exactly when an earthquake will occur.”
Currently no warning in Germany
The Earthquake News also confirms that the warnings were false reports. The warnings affected large parts of Germany, especially the Ruhr area and Frankfurt were named as affected regions.
The earthquake catastrophe in Turkey has left people with images that they don't want to experience first hand. It is obvious that such a false report can cause panic.
In affected areas such as Turkey, rumors of new earthquakes continue to flare up. This is also the case in Romania. It stands to reason that the false reports have also spread to Germany. The authors or the origin of the messages cannot currently be traced.
However, Earthquake News also explains that it is not possible to predict an earthquake. Experts only rely on estimates when it comes to aftershocks or increased potential. Unfortunately, a real warning is simply not possible here. That's why you should be suspicious of such reports - especially via social media - and not forward them so as not to further fuel possible panic like last night.
