Facebook accounts, Facebook pages and Facebook groups at risk! Facebook users are currently receiving a fake email from “Facebook Policy” with the subject: “Important information about your verified page on Facebook” . Apparently various Facebook rules have been violated and Facebook now has to remove the “blue tick” again. However, if you are convinced that you have not violated any Facebook rules, you can follow a link and file a complaint.

It is this fake email from the “Facebook Policy”

About Phishing
Phishing is when someone tries to gain access to your Facebook account using a suspicious message or link. Here you will usually be asked to provide personal information. If that person gets access to your account, they may try to send spam through it.

Example of Phishing
Tom receives an email telling him to log in to his Facebook account and read an important message about his account. The link in the email goes to a website that is not a Facebook website. There he will be asked to enter his username and password.

How to identify suspicious emails and messages
If you are able to identify suspicious emails or messages, you could avoid phishing scams.

Messages are suspicious if the following are true:

  • Money is demanded
  • A gift is offered
  • There are threats to have your Facebook account deleted or blocked

Emails related to your account will only be sent from these addresses:

  • fb.com
  • facebook.com
  • facebookmail.com

Important note: You can always check www.facebook.com or your Facebook app to see if there are any important messages from us.

Never click on suspicious links
If you receive a suspicious email or message that claims to be from Facebook, never click on any links or attachments.

Do not respond to such emails
Do not respond to messages that ask you to:

  • password
  • Social Security Number
  • Credit card details

Use warnings ! Get notified of unknown logins and enable two-factor authentication to increase the security of your account.

Here's what you can do if you've been a victim of phishing on Facebook!

If you accidentally entered your username or password through a suspicious link, a stranger may be able to log in to your account. You should take the following measures:

Backup, restore or verify your account

Note: You can report suspicious emails at any time to phish@fb.com .
