This is reported by our content partner, Watchlist-Internet: Criminals are currently posing as Europol and sending a “convocation” that appears very threatening to many recipients: The criminals claim that there are several legal proceedings against those affected. Specifically, it would be about child pornography, pedophiles and the like. Even if the email sounds very scary, there is no need to worry!

What does the fraudulent email say?

There are currently several emails in circulation in which criminals pose as Europol or other police authorities. In each of these emails, the recipient will find a document in which disturbing allegations are made. Even if the specific choice of words differs, the point is always that the recipient has committed a crime - namely in the area of child pornography.
One of these emails in the exact wording:

CONVENTION
At the request of Ms. Catherine De Bolle,
Acts within the framework of the written instructions of Ms. CATHERINE DE BOLLE, Director General of the EUROPOL OFFICE and HEAD OF THE BRIGADE FOR THE PROTECTION OF MINORS, file number No. 160422900879.
According to analyzes and works carried out in our brigade for the Protection of Minors (BPM) on the computer network, certain traces of your identification data have been identified and you are the subject of several ongoing legal proceedings:

  • CHILD PORN
  • PORNOGRAPHIC WEBSITE
  • CYBERPORNOGRAPHY
  • PEDOPHILIA
  • EXHIBITIONISM

For your information: The law of March 2007 increases the penalties for attempts on minors, sexual assault or rape committed over the Internet.
You are invited to listen via email: directriceexecutiveuropol@gmail.com. By writing to us with your justifications within a strict deadline of 72 hours for review and verification so that the sanctions can be assessed for you. After this period, we are obliged to send our report to Mme MYRIAM QUEMENER , judge in the criminal service of the Court of Appeal of Versailles, expert of the Council of Europe in cybercrime, in order to issue an arrest warrant against you. This will be transmitted to the gendarmerie closest to your place of residence for your arrest and in order to portray you as a sex offender, we will transmit our file to several national and international television channels so that your arrest will be broadcast to your family and relatives and the whole World will see what you do in front of your cell phone and your computer!

These emails are fake. They do not come from Europol or other police authorities. Therefore, under no circumstances should you respond to such emails!

How can you tell it's a scam?

MIMIKAMA
Don't let these initial emails surprise you or intimidate you.
Because that's exactly what the criminals hope for. Instead, take a closer look at the email - you will quickly realize that it is a scam. We took a close look at the contents of the email and found some inconsistencies:
  • The criminals demand an answer from you. You should send this to directriceexecutiveuropol@gmail.com . The email will also be sent via this address. But: This is not an official Europol address! Therefore, you should not open the document at all, but rather move the email to your spam folder. After all, it could also be malware.
  • The email is sent on behalf of Europol Director Catherine De Bolle. However, further down there is a stamp from Catherine De Boole. In other official-looking documents, stamps, logos and names are randomly mixed together. Such mistakes expose the fraudsters.
  • The allegations, demands and threats made make no sense : For example, there is no 72-hour period in which you should send “justifications” by email. The threat that the file will be made public and your “arrest will be broadcast to your family and relatives” is hardly an official action by Europol.
  • And even without checking all of this, it is already clear that Europol does not send arrest warrants, information about court proceedings or anything similar by email . Such police documents are either sent by post or the authorities hand them out in person!

You answered the criminals?

If you have already responded to the criminals and have transferred your data, copies of ID or money, you should definitely inform the police and file a criminal complaint free of charge!
