Tempting job offers
Criminals are currently advertising vacancies at the Austrian Chamber of Commerce on Facebook. The postings appear very professional and feature the logo of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce. You will be offered a salary of 50 to 200 euros per hour. However, the job advertisements do not come from the Austrian Chamber of Commerce and are fraudulent, reports our cooperation partner Watchlist Internet .
The Chamber of Commerce is already in contact with Meta and Facebook to have the fraudulent ads removed. If you see such ads, report them to Facebook .
What happens if I apply?
Fraud with fake job advertisements has different goals. We know the following processes from other scams:
- You land on a phishing page and are asked to provide personal information such as name, address, telephone number, bank details, etc. A copy of your ID is often required.
- Criminals steal your identity and use it for further fraud. This will probably open accounts and conclude contracts in your name.
- You actually receive work orders e.g. B. Transfer money to specific bank accounts, receive packages or open bank accounts as a test. In these cases, however, you are abused as a “money mule” and unknowingly participate in money laundering. Remember: you are committing a criminal offense! You can read more about this scam here .
How to spot fraudulent job offers
- No work experience required
- Disproportionately good pay
- Inaccurate description of the activity
- Strange tasks (e.g. opening accounts in your own name, transferring funds to other accounts, accepting packages…)
- You must transfer money to your new employer
I have applied – what can I do?
- File a police report.
- If you are completing orders: break off contact and no longer carry out instructions.
