Especially since the Corona pandemic, criminals have been trying to defraud unsuspecting citizens via the Internet. They are currently luring students with supposedly lucrative part-time jobs. That's why everyone should be careful about job offers on the Internet.
In their advertisements, cyber criminals advertise light activities
The students are only supposed to relabel received packages and often send them abroad. To do this, the fraudsters even provide employees with ready-made shipping stickers from postal companies.
The problem: The goods in the packages were fraudulently acquired or intercepted. Anyone who accepts such a job acts as a so-called goods agent and helps the criminals to conceal their machinations. In addition, the fraudsters do not pay the goods agents the outstanding wages. With other variants of this scam, job seekers could even make themselves liable to prosecution ( HERE ).
Beware of fraud as a goods agent
That's why everyone should be particularly suspicious of particularly lucrative job offers that involve light tasks and not accept the offer.
Anyone who believes they have fallen for the “merchandise agent” scam should urgently contact their local police department. For this purpose, evidence (emails, messenger messages, etc. from the fraudsters) should also be secured, for example using a screenshot.
Protection against fraud when searching for a job online
- Pay attention to serious offers. Be suspicious of unusually well-paid jobs that require no prior knowledge or skills.
- Decline offers that require you to make your account available for payments . Don’t be tempted by high commissions either.
- Check the employer's details , for example using a search engine.
- Do not respond to job offers sent to unsolicited by email
