Once again, fraudsters are trying to lure unsuspecting people into their trap with false loan offers. At Mimikama we want to warn you about this dangerous scam and help you protect yourself.
The scam: How do the perpetrators operate?
Scammers create fake profiles, often with a picture of a real person who is in no way connected to the scam. They use the comment function under popular posts to spread their fraudulent messages. The messages go something like this: “Do you need a loan? I recommend this company to you. I tried it and was satisfied. Try it out too!” A dubious link is also attached.

However, the alleged loan offers are only part of the sophisticated scheme known as “advance payment fraud.” Fraudsters lure their victims with quick and uncomplicated loans, often at extremely favorable conditions that are rarely found in reality. If you are interested, an advance payment for alleged processing fees or securities will be required.
Cost trap for those affected
The money paid as an advance is lost after the transfer. The promised loan is never paid out and the fraudster runs away, often with the fake profile. The victims are left with significant financial losses, which can run into thousands depending on the amount of the advance.
How can you protect yourself?
Protect yourself from this sneaky scam. Here are some important steps to keep in mind:
- Be suspicious: Do not accept loan offers from unknown people, especially if they appear in comments under posts.
- Check the source: Thoroughly research the company or sender of the loan offer. Look for reviews, complaints, or warnings from other users.
- Avoid advance payments: Be extremely cautious about requests for advance payments. Reputable lenders typically do not require payments up front.
- Report suspicious activity: If you come across fake loan offers, report them to Facebook immediately. This helps protect other users from these scammers.
What to do if you are a victim of advance fee fraud?
If you have already fallen victim to this fraudulent scam, it is important to act quickly:
- Report the incident to the police and file a complaint.
- Inform your bank about the fraud and try to have the amount charged back or take other measures to get your money back.
- Share your experiences: Share your story on social media or forums to warn others about similar scams.
- Be wary of further scam attempts: the scammers may try to contact you again. Stay vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately.
We hope that you are better protected by knowing what such fraudulent loan offers look like and how they work. Share this warning with your friends and family to create wider awareness about this scam. This allows us to reduce the spread of advance fee fraud on Facebook.
