At the moment, users are receiving a fake email from the Sparkasse asking the recipient to update their data. This is a phishing attempt.

Criminals are currently sending emails in the name of the savings bank and pretending that the customer should update their data due to innovations and adjustments. A button “Update now” is offered underneath. If you click on this, you will be taken to a fake login mask in the design of the Sparkasse. But be careful, it's phishing!

Fraudsters repeatedly try to obtain the login details of bank customers using flimsy reasons.

In reality, of course, the fraudsters want all sensitive data from the user.

Tip:
If you are not sure whether a site is real: simply try to log in with imaginary data. If this works, you can be sure that the site is not real!

How do I know that it is a fake email?

  • On the content: Criminals pretend that your account has been blocked or that you should verify your data. Before you do anything, you should verify the claim and check whether your account is actually blocked.
  • At the email address: Criminals manipulate the email header so that at first glance it appears as if the email actually comes from a bank or company. If you click on “Details”, you will see the real sender address.

  • Due to the lack of salutation: Phishing emails are sent en masse and indiscriminately. Therefore, recipients are only addressed as “Dear Customer”.
  • About spelling and grammatical errors : Business transactions are always proofread. You can recognize fraudulent emails by strange wording, punctuation errors, incorrect capitalization, etc.
  • On the linked button: at the end of a phishing email there is a button that takes you to a fake login page.

How do I recognize a fake login page?

  • At the web address: A fake login page looks deceptively similar to the real one, but runs under a different web address. Phishing sites have an implausible web address.
  • The missing green lock: If you don't see a green lock in the address line, it means that your data can be accessed along the way.

What can I do once I have entered my details?

  • Contact your bank and email provider immediately and explain the situation.
  • Change your password immediately.
