The claim
The mayor of the Belgian town of Soignies has spoken out against Muslim parents' calls for a ban on pork in school canteens.
Our conclusion
Nonsense. There is no such demand and, accordingly, no such reaction. The source of this “chain letter” dates back years – and was a fake back then too!
This story is pulled out of the hat again and again. Muslim parents are calling for pork to be banned from school canteens. A mayor steps into the breach and makes it clear that this demand will not be met. The mayor's alleged statements are then often included in Facebook postings and garnished with their own opinion: "We are not xenophobic, but..."
This is also the case in the Facebook post in which the mayor in question is quoted, introduced by the user's thoughts.

“I agree.
Facebook post in plain text (sic!)
A mayor who refuses to remove pork from the school canteen menu explains why..
Muslim parents have called for the abolition of pork from all school canteens
The mayor of the Soignies entity, refused, the city minister wrote a note to all parents with the following statement:
"Muslims must understand that in BELGIUM they must adapt to their customs, traditions, lifestyle, because that is where they chose to immigrate."
"They must understand that they must integrate and learn, to live in BELGIUM.
» “They must understand that it is they who have to change their lifestyle, not the Belgians who so generously welcome them.
» “You must understand that the Belgians are neither racist nor xenophobic, they accepted many immigrants before Muslims (there is no opposite, that is, the Muslim states do not accept non-Muslim immigrants).
Like other countries, the Belgians have no intention of giving up their identity or their culture. » “And if Belgium is a host country, it is not the mayor of Soignies who welcomes the foreigners, but the Belgians.
They must finally understand that in BELGIUM we have Judeo-Christian roots, Christmas trees and religious holidays, but religion must remain private.
The CARE unit is right to refuse any concessions to Islam and Sharia law.
For Muslims who disagree with secularism and do not feel comfortable in BELGIUM, there are 57 beautiful Muslim countries worldwide, the majority underpopulated, ready to welcome them with wide open halalarms and in consultation with them.
It's Sharia. If you left your country to come to BELGIUM, but not to another Muslim country, it is because you think life in BELGIUM is better than elsewhere."
"Just ask yourself;
why is life in BELGIUM better than in your home country? » “A cafeteria that serves pork is part of the answer.” If you think like me, send it to all your contacts. If not, delete it and let us dominate.”
Belgium? Or maybe Canada?
The text refers to “Soignies” or “Soignies-Entity”. The latter term is a translation error. The original text can be found Facebook in French The sentence in question here is “Le bourgmestre de l'entité de Soignies, a refusé, le secrétaire de la ville, a addressé une note à tous les parents avec l'explication suivante.” The translation tool DeepL reproduces this in German as follows: “Der Mayor of the Soignies unit rejected this, the secretary of the city sent a notice to all parents with the following explanation.”
However, if we now go back in time a few years, we find the same text back in 2015. Here, however, the story refers to Canada, more specifically to the city of Dorval in the Canadian province of Quebec ( HERE ).
We came across this message again in 2016 ( HERE ), until a detail changed in 2018. “Dorval” eventually became “Durval” ( HERE ). Until we arrive in a completely different country and a different city: Belgium, Soignies.
Old history thawed again and again
But Soignies also appeared in 2017, as RTBF reported. Snopes , another Belgian city, Ath, was denied . According to RTLInfo , this hoax has been going on since at least 2013.
The City of Dorval also issued a statement in 2015 regarding the claims, clarifying that this was a hoax. In the press report, this story is viewed as a hoax, which probably came from the United States and whose similar words were allegedly spoken by a Belgian mayor in 2013. This was also a hoax that spread worldwide.
The rumor surrounding Muslim parents' demands to ban pork from school canteens has been going strong for years. The cities and countries vary, but the truth remains the same, namely zero.
Conclusion

There is no evidence to support the claim that Muslim parents called for pork to be banned from school cafeterias. Be it in Canada or Belgium.
This is a false claim that has been circulating on the internet for years. If the report appears again next year - which we assume with certainty - we can speak of the 10th anniversary.
