The claim
“NWO climate terrorists” are intentionally starting forest fires in 2023 to promote a “climate lie.”
Our conclusion
Incorrect. The video shows a firefighting tactic that involves deliberately setting fires in a controlled manner to prevent a forest fire from spreading. The video was recorded back in 2017 in northwest Arizona, in the Hualapai Mountains, and shows a common method of fighting wildfires.
The misleading claim is currently circulating: “ NWO climate terrorists are operating all over the world on behalf of the NWO communism agenda. “They are intentionally starting forest fires to promote their stupid climate lie.”

Proof of this claim is a certain video that has been used for other fake news in the past, more specifically since 2017. But what is really behind this video and the claims associated with it?
No, the claims about “climate terrorists” are not true!
The helicopter does not cause a forest fire, but rather flies a mission that involves removing parts of the vegetation and thus containing forest fires. This is also known as “back burning” or “controlled burning”. This video was previously released by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Arizona on March 22, 2017!
Controlled burning: a tool for forest management
Controlled burning has been a proven method of forest management for centuries. Fires are deliberately set and burned under controlled conditions. This method is used by forestry professionals and farmers worldwide to maintain landscapes, thin vegetation, and reduce the risk of serious wildfires.
Controlled burning, when done correctly, can reduce undergrowth, thereby removing potential “fuel” for wildfires. It also promotes the natural regeneration of certain tree and plant species that are adapted to fire. In some regions, controlled burning is even necessary to preserve certain ecosystems.
BLM posted the video on Facebook on March 23, 2017 and on Twitter March 21, 2017
The video description reads: “The Colorado River District, in collaboration with the Arizona Game and Fish Department, is conducting a fire, the Beecher Prescribed Fire, in the Hualapai Mountains southeast of Kingman this week. Here is a video of yesterday's inflammation. Firefighters are using a helicopter to assist in igniting an area of approximately 1,500 hectares. Ignition has been completed on around 1,000 hectares and continues today on the remaining 500 hectares. The goal of the fires is to treat dense inland chaparral vegetation to improve mule deer habitat and return fire to an area where it can play a natural role in ecosystem health. The aim is to “mimic the frequency and intensity of natural fires and reduce the fire load so that natural fires are less destructive and improve feeding conditions for wildlife and livestock.”
The AFP sent the video, which was circulating on social media, to the Bureau of Land Management in Arizona for review. Dolores Garcia, in charge of public relations, confirmed on August 4, 2022 that it was the same operation from 2017.
“Yes, that was helicopter video of a controlled burn conducted on one of our units in northwestern Arizona in the Hualapai Mountains in 2017„
Dolores Garcia > AFP
In 2017 there was also a press release about this: “ Prescribed burn planned in the Hualapai Mountains ”
Conclusion: The currently circulating video actually shows a method for fighting forest fires and not, as some claim, how forest fires start or that “NWO climate terrorists are operating on behalf of the NWO communism agenda”. The helicopter in the video is performing what is known as “back burning,” or “controlled burning,” a method used in the U.S. and other countries to prevent wildfires. To prevent or contain the spread of forest fires, vegetation is deliberately burned. This method is carried out by the Bureau of Land Management in the USA and the video was recorded in Arizona in 2017. The false claim that the video shows how forest fires start was spread on social media to question the effects of climate change.
