A photo of Chancellor Merkel's identity card from 1980 is said to prove something sensational: Merkel was an “underground fighter”.

This is the picture:

“You STASI NAZIS can delete it as often as you want. The truth is already on thousands of computers.

Underground fighter for US imperialism. The photo is not fake. The Federal Republic of Germany is a colony of the USA. The Stasi already knew that.”

And on the photo of the ID card it is clearly written:

“Note: underground fighter for US imperialism”

What was she now?

Apparently people don't really agree: On the one hand she was "IM Erika", a Stasi spy under Russian control, but now she was working for "US imperialism". Someone should take a look!

But the ID looks very credible. We are sure that all secret agents have such a note on their ID. We also know them from Hollywood. " My name is Bond. James Bond. This is my identification. I have a license to kill, so you can't arrest me!

A closer look

A picture of her ID has been circulating for years, but it looks like this:

“Perhaps the credit has been removed from the picture?”

We have been waiting for this question. So let's take a closer look at the note.

When directly comparing the letters on the ID card and the note, it is noticeable that the character set of the note has a higher resolution than the rest of the document, and a different character set is used.

When enlarged, you can see that the letters are bolder when they touch the signature, which means that the signature was already there before, the letters were then placed on top of it, so that note only appeared on the ID card or picture after the signature was created of the ID card was added.

In addition, the distance between the letters is a good identifying feature. There are three possibilities as to how such a reference could have appeared on the document: by printing it directly on it, by printing it afterwards, by stamping it on it.

We have already established above that the note was most likely created later. In the 1980s, however, the letters were all out of proportion to each other. This means that all letters take up the same space, so some letters are further apart than others, even if only slightly. This is still known today from stamps that you can make yourself by inserting the individual letters into the stamp. There were also only daisy wheel printers (which worked like a typewriter) or dot matrix printers (in which the letters consist of a grid of dots).

But this additional note has a special feature: the letters are all proportional to each other. In other words: each letter only takes up the space it needs, the distance between the letters is exactly the same. This means that the note on the ID card was created on the computer rather than in the 1980s.

And finally, of course, we have the embarrassing spelling mistake: in no dictionary at any time did it ever say “underground fighter ”.

Conclusion

Even if the creator of the image insists that it is not a fake: it clearly is. The writing does not match the rest of the ID card as a whole; the note was added later, written on the computer and contains an embarrassing spelling mistake.
