Open delivery or customs fees

The fraudulent emails state that you still have to pay fees. Apparently only then can your package be delivered. You will be asked to click on a link to make up the payment. If you click on the link, you will land on a fake parcel service login page.

When you log in to the fake login page, your credentials are sent to the criminals. This allows criminals to, for example, redirect important letters or packages or activate your cell phone signature and then digitally sign it in your name.

Next, you will be asked to pay a small fee. If you enter your credit card details on the fraudulent website, they will end up with the criminals. But you may also fall into a subscription trap.

Criminals demand app download

In some cases you will be asked to download an app. This app contains malware or is used to read your data and passwords.

Our tip: Always only download apps from the official app store and check whether the app is reputable .

Have you downloaded the app? Uninstall the app and restart your phone. You may need to reset the device to factory settings. Be sure to change your passwords!

Detect fraudulent emails

You can use the following features to detect phishing emails:

  • Link: Need to click a link to fix an issue? Be careful, links that should definitely be clicked indicate fraud!
  • Mistake: Phishing emails are usually poorly translated and full of spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Sender address : Is the sender's email address plausible? Is it the sender's real email address? Search the address on the Internet! If it is not listed on the official website, you can assume it is fake.
  • Impersonal salutation: Fraudulent emails are sent en masse. Therefore, you will only be addressed as “Dear Customer” or “Dear Customer”.

Credit card details entered – what to do?

  • Contact your credit card company and explain that you have been the victim of a phishing trap. You will probably need to have your card blocked.
  • Change the password for your postal account. If this is no longer possible, contact the post office and request that your account be deactivated.
  • Also file a police report.
