Beware of fake shops: Many users don't even know when a Facebook app is making fraudulent posts in their name.

Sharepic leads to fake shops – the most important thing to start with:

  1. Facebook users unknowingly post fraudulent status posts that lead to fake shops.
  2. Fraudsters exploit the trust between Facebook friends and tag numerous contacts. They are then taken to fake shops via a short link shown on the sharepic.
  3. Behind this are often Facebook applications that require certain access rights or the user has fallen victim to a phishing trap.

We keep receiving requests like these:

It's always worth taking a look at your Facebook applications!

The fact check

The Sharepic is a bait whose short links lead to fake shops. The well-known brand names are misused and have nothing to do with the companies themselves.

The fraudsters also exploit the trust of Facebook users. Because the sharepic is posted by a friend and he tagged me - then it must be a serious offer!

But how does this even come about?
So if you or your friends post “weird things”, then there are usually Facebook applications behind it that your friends or you have just approved.

If the question arises as to whether you or your friends have been “hacked”, it is possible that you have fallen into a phishing trap and played your access data into the hands of cyber criminals via a fake login mask. And you should also be careful single sign-on

So how can I free myself from this?
First of all, it makes sense to look through all of your apps on Facebook. You can find the applications under Settings in the Apps and Websites category .

These apps are granted various access rights so that they function as they do. Permissions like these are problematic:

  • Post posts on your behalf. These posts may appear on your Timeline and News Feed. View them all in your activity log.
  • Send notifications to you

Then that's exactly what happens: Fraudsters post a sharepic in your name that leads to fake shops and also tag some of your friends so that they fall into the trap.

The best thing to do is to delete such apps via the settings and also remove the app posts from your timeline or activity log.

  1. Click on the arrow pointing down .
  2. Select Activity Log.
  3. All Apps in the menu on the left .
  4. Click the pencil on the app post you want to remove.
  5. Select Report/Mark as Spam to remove the activity from your timeline. Select Delete to remove them from Facebook entirely.

No more unwanted markings!
Unfortunately, there is no direct way to stop a mark, but you can at least have marks submitted for review so that you can remove them yourself. This means that postings of this type do not end up directly on your own profile.

You can find detailed . In most cases it can help if you change your password! Pay particular attention to lots of letters, numbers and, if possible, special characters.

Conclusion:

Fraudsters are creative when it comes to obtaining users’ data. Be it through a phishing trap, a single sign-on or a manipulated quiz.

In addition, it is always advisable as a user to check twice who you are granting which permissions and access to. Always ask yourself: “Does a mobile game need to be able to post on your behalf in order for you to play it?”
